Add Music or Sound Effects to Your Video

The worst part about watching raw video footage is all the silence and background noise. Editing your home movie allows you to put music and sound effects. Music can turn a boring raw video into an emotional experience, for example, adding a music clip from the ’60s.

Watch this video tutorial to learn how easy it is to add music to your video.

Notes & Tips
You must first import your music files (usually .mp3 or .wav files) into a Movie Maker Collection before you can add the music to the Audio/Music track of your movie. Let me repeat that. You cannot add music to your video directly from your ipod or CD. You must first upload the music to your PC hard drive, import them into Movie Maker, then they’ll be available to add to your movie project.

You can add music from ANY collection to your project. It doesn’t have to come from one specific collection.

A sound effect is just another sound file.
It usually has the .mp3 or .wav file extension. Treat it just like another music file. The only difference is that a sound effect file, - a champagne cork popping, for example - is much shorter, usually a few seconds compared to a full piece of song or music.
