How to Split or Overlap Video Clips
There are 2 videos to watch in this tutorial:
- How to Split a clip into two
- How to Overlap two clips (So one fades into the other. Pretty cool.)
1. How to Split a clip into two
2. How to Overlap Two Clips (So one fades into the other).
Why would I want to split a clip? Trimming only work on the edges of the clip. If I want to take out something in the middle of the clip, I have to first split the clip into two, then trim the edges. Or sometimes, I just need the first few seconds of a long video clip. Instead of trimming 90% of it away, I just split it, and delete the part I don’t want.
Why would I want to overlap 2 clips? The effect is darn cool and so easy to do. Try it just like it’s shown in the video tutorial above.
By controlling how much the two clips overlap, you can control how fast or how slow the transition is. To increase the overlap, just slide the second clip more into the first clip. To decrease the overlap, just slide the second clip out more from the first clip.
Homework
- Open your Movie Maker project.
- Experiment taking out the middle portion of a long video clip by first, splitting the clip into two, then trimming the edges. (Watch the video again if I sound Greek to you).
- Experiment overlapping a video clip with a picture clip next to it and preview the effect.
- Slide the two overlapping clips more so they overlap more. Now preview the transition.
